Just heard that my whole town house complex has been red-stickered. This means no access. I have a small suitcase with about three changes of clothes, two books and assorted phone chargers, and no idea when - if - I'll be allowed back home once I get back tomorrow.

I'm so sorry. :-( For the first quake they were often allowing people to go in quickly to retrieve things; I hope they are this time too, and can do it soon.

Thanks. A friend and I went through the cordon this afternoon to look at the complex - looks like the problem is the combination of severe liquefaction and a seriously damaged church in close proximity to the houses, rather than damage to the house itself. I am now making lists of things to grab within selected time limits (I always wanted to win one of those 5 minutes with a trolley in a large department store competitions, but I think my priorities will be slightly different this time)

Ow, yeah. Not nearly as fun as being set loose in a department store but very good you can get some stuff out. And sounds like once things are more under control you will be able to go back, though I'm sure it can't possibly be soon enough.
