I completely missed the failure to play the recording! But yes, the "secret" corporate logo cunningly concealed on branded clothing and every single sample and actual test paper did irk me. Mainly, tho', I kept waiting for the supernatural/sf element, only to be fobbed off with an EM Forster reference.
It is odd looking at how much better his earlier books were. I wonder if he feels the same way about it.
