Public Service Announcement
Nov. 14th, 2017 09:40 pmOne of my favourite ever fic writers, Maldoror (previously
maldoror_gw on lj and now
maldoror_chant on dw;
Maldoror_Chant on AO3) is posting again, archiving all her old fics and working on some WIPs (Outland and The Source of All Things) that, frankly, I hadn't held out much hope for. I very much recommend her fic.
My favourites:
The Arrangement, which got me into Gundam Wing and is pretty much my platonic ideal of a fic, being >300K of action and inability to talk about feelings; still the only fic to make me cry over moving furniture. It's complete on AO3 and there is now a bonus sequel chapter (with Dorothy!). And yes, I did painstakingly copy an earlier version of this from a multipage website so I could save it as an epub and fix all the speech tags, something for which I no longer need to feel guilty (see acknowledgments).
Freeport; in progress on AO3, pretty much my favourite space colony worldbuilding ever (it's run - surprisingly functionally - by anarchists). Also Gundam Wing; I did try reading this without canon and gave up, as the beginning's hook depends on you knowing who everyone is, but that changes and I think you could push on through. I am not-so-quietly hoping for a sequel chapter to this one, too.
Diplomatic Relations In progress on AO3, and has a sequel, Kindred, which is one of my favourite kidfics ever for actually having believable kids. Naruto, a canon for which I have read one volume and a lot of fair-to-middling Kakashi/Iruka slash; this is most definitely a rare pairing and involves adults.
Outlands Original m/m, multipart; I'm not entirely sure how Mal's posting this in terms of series, but there's 90K words there so far, quite a bit more to go and she's writing more. Uptight Japanese accountant discovers he can open a path into another universe, loosely based, I think, on Assyria with a lot more magic, hooks up with hot military guy, shenanigans ensue. Lots of plot and politics.
