cyphomandra: Painting of a bare tree, by Rita Angus (tree)
While writing my Yuletide fic, I read all 4 volumes of Challengers, all six complete volumes of Koi Suru Boukun, the first four chapters of volume 7, the DVD extra and the Onsen special, and halfway through all that lot skipped back and read anything else by Takanaga Hinako that wasn’t high school romance. And then I read some of the high school ones anyway. And then I finished writing my fic, which required a lot more effort and whining.

Anyway. I don’t read a lot of BL/yaoi manga, because the fixed sex roles tend to give me hives (I realise this may be cultural bias but hey, it’s my cultural bias), the art style often doesn’t work for me (especially when the characters are drawn with one massive hulking triangle on legs (seme) and one tiny wide-eyed trembling ingénue (uke)), and I like long series with plot or emotional character arcs that do a bit more than just getting the characters together and providing me with explicitly detailed sex scenes that are difficult to read on the bus. However, I do like slash and am constantly looking for new narratives due to a short attention span and a fast reading speed, plus there’s so much BL out there, so I keep trying. And every so often I hit something that works for me.

Which Koi Suru Boukun does. )
