I'm back home, and things aren't too bad - power and water (tho' not safe for drinking), and I'm a whole block away from the police cordon/curfew area. Three of my bookcases went down; one's damaged, and there are a lot of books on the floor that I've shoved into piles, some with minor damage. The computer appears to have been stabilised by falling books and is fine, and none of the crockery, glasses etc that I have perched on open shelves broke. My garage door will only open manually, but it opens.
The ground around the whole block is twisted and cracked, but the buildings themselves seem okay. Less than a block away there are buildings with their whole fronts fallen off - usually older (70+ years), brick, and not earthquake proofed. Lots of chimneys down, leaks from water mains, and buildings marked off with tape or hazards labelled with orange spray paint. The worry about supplies seems to have died down - reasonable numbers of shops selling water - although a lot of petrol stations are still closed.
I see a lot of book shelving in my immediate future :) All the best to others affected.
